Taiwan stocks fall

Taiwan stocks finished down 0.61 percent on Wednesday as worries lingered over slower technology sales, but AU Optronics Corp rose after a plan by its touch panel unit to build new factories to tap future demand.

Taiwan’s main TAIEX share index closed down 50.86 points at 8,293.90, despite gains on Wall Street on expectations the midterm election and a Federal Reserve decision would create a more business-friendly environment.

The semiconductor sub-index edged down 0.04 percent and the computer & peripherals sub-index fell 1.2 percent, while investors looked for growth bargains in the steel and textile sectors.

AU rose 0.33 percent, while its touch panel unit Cando Corp was eased 0.43 percent.

Smartphone maker HTC Corp rose 0.95 percent, while Hon Hai Precision Industry Co Ltd, a big exporter of electronics parts, dropped 1.3 percent.

Foreign investors have bought T$27.8 billion ($914 million) worth of Taiwan shares in the past two sessions. They bought T$40.4 billion of local shares last month.
